Vernon Silver Star Quilters
VSSQ Activities
- VSSQ offers various workshops and demos, guest speakers, teachers, trunk shows, and two retreats each year, plus a lending library with a extensive selection of books, patterns, rulers and magazines. There are social days, road trips, pot lucks and sewing subgroups. Click here for our Calendar of Events.
- We have a strong committment of quilt donations to our local community. Last year our Community Care committee donated 10 to VJH Maternity Ward,
11 to First Nations Friendship Centre,18 to Public Health Vernon Health Unit,5 to Gleaners,2 to Vernon Hospice,1 to a cancer patient,36 to Heron Grove Complex Care Seniors,1 to Heron Grove Assisted Living Dignity, 8 to Alexis Park School, and 8 to Silver Springs Retirement Home. We use donated fabric and purchase batting with our Guild budget. The members also generously make quilts with their own fabric and donate them, or quilt tops, or fabrics such as flannel for backings. Many people are staying warm and comforted thanks to our hard work and commitment - and the quality of the work is impressive.
- The Guild has a very successful initiative called the Newcomers group. New members are assigned a Member of Longer Standing who helps them in their first year to feel comfortable in our large group, and answers questions about the functioning of the Guild. The Newcomers group is very active and has several functions throughout the Guild year.
- Every third year the Guild hosts a large quilt show and 2025 is the year! This show, themed ''Quilters are Piecemakers'', is scheduled for September 26th and 27th. Click here for a poster with details, or look under the VSSQ menu for the 2025 Quilt Show tab. In off-show years we hold an Autumn Sale of quilts and quilted goods.
